In terms of site history, current St James's church is a 15thC rebuild of a mid-13thC church, which seems to have replaced a L12thC church >
> which in turn replaced earlier church. No pre-L12thC fabric known, but earliest church was prob Anglo-Saxon Minster church of c.700 AD...
@caitlinrgreen could it be a tomb recess if it was within an earlier thicker wall?
