For anyone still interested in the new DNA study, worth noting that despite issues, are a couple of interesting things to note. Perhaps >

(Which is not to say doesn't still have signif issues & relies on assumptions etc, as said before, but above = the more positive take, lol!)

@caitlinrgreen Would be v interesting to triangulate with placename evidence of Britons in England, eg Walpole/Walcot in Norfolk/Suffolk

@caitlinrgreen You might be interested in Hinxton ancient DNA, 2 samples from Iron age (male) and three from Anglo-Saxon period (female) -

@dubhthach Fabulous, thank you! Am afraid I don't see the issue being resolved until we have done a *lot* of (expensive) work like this :/
-
@caitlinrgreen key thing is big increase in amount of Ancient DNA, paper just published on first Yamnaya genomes from Russian bronze age -
@dubhthach Ancient DNA is def what's needed, but even at reduced prices, is affordable to do on the v large scale that would be needed?!
-
@caitlinrgreen paper for example published on modern Europeans using ancient DNA from paeloithic, mesolithic and neolithic (model etc.) -

@dubhthach fascinating abstract, thank you! :)

@caitlinrgreen From what you have said some of it is challenging some existing info we have & some of it is confirming other info we have. -
@EquineAnn I'd say so---it's refining some things, but it certainly isn't as new or definitive as some are implying! Plus has some issues :/
-
@caitlinrgreen People can lie just as well on paper. Different people interpret the same words differently. Things can be put ambiguously. -
@EquineAnn The big issue is, interpreting data collected 1500 yrs after an event requires models, and conclusions vary depending on models!
-
@caitlinrgreen Definitely & quality & how reliable the test really is.
