@caitlinrgreen sad loss :-/
@CatherineEsse Indeed. It's such a shame that several of the gates and other bits survived so well for so long, and then were lost :(
@caitlinrgreen not, then, just the urban planners of the 1960s that damaged the city heritage :-/
@CatherineEsse Afraid not :-/
@caitlinrgreen with such illustrations I find myself really wishing I could somehow go back and view all those places and >
@caitlinrgreen buildings when they still "were" ...

@caitlinrgreen thanks, there was also a link at the bottom to feed my nascent interest in Lincoln Churches, St p in the bail even.
@T3_Stephen indeed! Although note the dating of St Paul is wrong ;) (C14 is quite clear that 2nd church there was demolished by E7thC)
Another 18thC view of the South Gate of the Roman Upper City at Lincoln (Grimm, 1784) http://www.bl.uk/onlinegallery/onlineex/topdrawings/l/005add000015541u00139000.html …pic.twitter.com/StR6LbueDU
@caitlinrgreen beautiful illustrations :)
@CatherineEsse Aren't they?! :) Here's another, Little Bargate (Sincil drain, Ermine Street), before mid18thC removalpic.twitter.com/6iGhicWI2Z
@CatherineEsse Sadly no reconstruction of that one, I think :(
@caitlinrgreen Looking closely, it looks like the pier between the two central arches in the reconstruction is now part of the tea shop wall
@GeorgeRick1 Yes, it does look that way! :)
