@caitlinrgreen Very good! Do you recall Francis Pryor's polemical foray into this debate from 2004? He made a documentary for Channel 4.
@Harry_cartoons Thank you! :) Yes, it was fascinating!
@caitlinrgreen Yes, although I didn't agree with his thesis by quite a measure....
@Harry_cartoons Yes, is controversial! For my part, signif migration is best explanation of crem cems, but also evidence for continuity too!
@caitlinrgreen Certainly think he overplayed the Germanic 'warrior elite' argument & clearly overlooked poss. of higher 'A. Saxon' birthrate
@Harry_cartoons Warrior elite in some areas, perhaps, but not in main Anglian zone? And yes, very probably a key element!
@caitlinrgreen Seems reasonable & wouldn't argue there was NOT a 'warrior elite,' just that it was not SOLELY an elite taking over as FP did
@Harry_cartoons Yes, agreed--Scull had v good paper on this in 1995 & would suspect most A-S specialists would not go for elite-only now :)
