Afaik, exact use of these buildings unclear, but seem on first glance to be earlier, still-standing buildings than the Roman lighthouse?
@caitlinrgreen Hobbit holes?
@editorius Ah, must be that, lol! :)
Another overhead view, this time of the early courtyard houses at nearby Carn Euny, Cornwall: http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/daysout/properties/carn-euny-ancient-village/ …pic.twitter.com/mC9EqcyrVY
. @caitlinrgreen hi welcome to West Penwith! God's own country :-)
@tehm It's a magnificent area of the country---love it! :)
@caitlinrgreen look us up if you're down
@tehm will do :)
@caitlinrgreen aha! Fogous! Some say ?sacred\ritual use I believe rather than the more prosaic food store or defensive hole ideas. >
@CatherineEsse Ah, works perhaps for the Carn Euny one.... but Bosporthennis is above ground! ;)
@caitlinrgreen ?perhaps above ground beehive hut and underground fogou different beasts with different raison d'etres - but I'm ignoramus :)
@CatherineEsse It's not something I've read up on! I have books that would help, will look tomorrow if I remember!
@caitlinrgreen I did a bit of reading on,fogous whilst down there as they intrigue me, and there were some interesting anecdotes of visitors
@CatherineEsse The Carn Euny one=magnificent, though the beehive hut actually predates it...! Beehive hut has florescent moss, is wonderful!
