@khodadadkavad - does this not look Parthian or something along those lines?
I have a close up of the decoration. Could you please elaborate for me. Artefact is in my office at the moment.pic.twitter.com/7ODLYi4BtB
Basically, unprecedented, and that is a redflag. Artistic hapax! This is the carving of a rhyton, and I cannot recall any object ever depicting another object! Also, the style just is not the style of the time.
This may be relevant? http://www.britishmuseum.org/research/collection_online/collection_object_details.aspx?assetId=1551177001&objectId=36580&partId=1 …pic.twitter.com/t2UK5PhRA1
The artefact awaits XFR now, but I've been looking at the back. This looks like a modern repair and there are a few markers that just seems "off". Waiting on further analysis.pic.twitter.com/WHram8Llpe
Interesting! So, maybe a modern repair of an early modern ring?
There is now a couple of Swedes who think they have seen this in late Frankish rings, so we are moving away from Roman/Black Sea region in origins. At the moment, I'm very skeptical, but will await the XFR.
Hmm! Well, will be very interested in any results! :)
