Well that serves me right for planning a whole holiday around visiting one place and not checking whether it will be open 🤦‍♀️ twitter, please give me your other October Cornwall tips!https://twitter.com/EHTintagel/status/1039030722374369280 …

      Rosie Weetch added,

      Tintagel Castle @EHTintagel
In October we start work on a new footbridge at Tintagel Castle, recreating the historic link from the mainland to the headland. The site will be closed throughout the autumn and winter while we build the bridge, due to open again in spring. Find out more: http://bit.ly/tintagelbridge  pic.twitter.com/1vtgPG9x5m

Chysauster last Autumn :) (plus a L6thC–E7thC Byzantine coin found there, so potential early medieval activity?!)https://twitter.com/caitlinrgreen/status/926566915732058113 …

I really like Phillack church at Hayle too, lots of Late Roman/early medieval finds and stonework here :)https://twitter.com/caitlinrgreen/status/1002287290960531457 …

St Just in Penwith is also well worth a visit, lovely 6thC memorial stone with Chi-Rho plus a 9thC cross shaft in the church and a medieval amphitheatre/playing-place in town:https://twitter.com/caitlinrgreen/status/985516968919928835 …

      Dr Caitlin Green added,

The 6th-century early Christian memorial stone of Senilus at St Just in Penwith; Andrea Harris has argued that St Just may be another imported early medieval cult, suggesting a link to the 4th-century St Justus who served as bishop of Lyon before retiring to Egypt as a hermit. pic.twitter.com/iwOP59UEEN

The Iron Age to Romano-British site at Carn Euny, with its underground passage and chamber with phosphorescent moss is also great :)https://twitter.com/caitlinrgreen/status/1034166396417204225 …

And finally Trencrom Hill near St Ives is great — a Neolithic tor enclosure with views of both the north and south coasts, reused as Iron Age hillfort & then arguably used in early medieval era :)https://twitter.com/caitlinrgreen/status/1012991034421280769 …

Looking out towards St Ives Bay and Godrevy Lighthouse from Trencrom Hill, Cornwall; an early medieval inscribed stone has been identified in a stile at the foot of the hillfort & there are reports of early medieval grass-marked wares having been found on the fort itself. pic.twitter.com/KiIFOgHJgY
