The 6th-century 'Cup of Chosroes', made for the Sasanian king Chosroes I (Khosrow I) & probably sent to France in the Carolingian era: https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=BP-0AwAAQBAJ&pg=PR12&lpg=PR12#v=onepage&q&f=false … & https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Coupe_de_Chosroès.JPG …pic.twitter.com/UTHVmqNc9y

Incidentally, here's the marble Omphalos of Hagia Sophia, where the Byzantine Emperors are said to have been crowned; if we imagine the emperor crowned at its centre, then the imagery is oddly reminiscent of the 6th-century Sasanian 'Cup of Chosroes' :)pic.twitter.com/vERrF9Pfz0

Lost in the breathtaking beauty of this cup. It's colours and workmanship give it life. What a master goldsmith this artist was.

Does the king in the centre has wings coming out from his shoulders? Is this a Zoroastrian symbol?
