A rather fabulous shot of the medieval west front of Lincoln Cathedral :)https://twitter.com/CatherineEsse/status/850421532140740608 …
Of course, worth recalling once more that Lincoln Cathedral was the tallest building in the *world* from 1311 to 1548 (160m), when its central spire fell in a storm! The two smaller spires survived to the 19thC :) https://georgianera.wordpress.com/2016/11/29/lincoln-cathedral-georgian-renovations/amp/ …pic.twitter.com/pgu89T8Ou1

Every time I drive from Newark road toward Lincoln I see the cathedral rising in the night on the cliff it is built on. It is magical. Must find photos
It really is! Its intriguing that the first view of it on the road comes just after you cross the Lincolnshire boundary too :)
That's my sort of #WorldCup
Indeed! :)
Tough vote for me. Ordinarily I prefer the simplicity of Romanesque & Byzantine styles, but could not bring myself to vote against Lincoln.
It is a tough draw, has to be said! :)
I thought that the issue was settled. Lincoln Cathedral has no peer!
Truth! Though if it ends up being Lincoln vs Hagia Sophia, that's going to be a tough one I suspect...!
Nah! Hagia Sophia's an architectural hodge-podge, a graceless lump alongside Lincoln Cathedral. Not that I'm at all biased.
OK, the PR for Lincoln Cathedral has started. I agree, it is a lovely cathedral but: 1) All cathedrals are magnificent and well worth a vote 2) Romanesque friezes are found everywhere 3) Vaulted roofs are barely unique. This one even is not special. 4) Agree: lovely lighting
So let's get real: apart from the light there is nothing really very special about this cathedral. And those images are very romantic and as such false images of those. It is not the image which determines the greatness of the cathedral.
LOL (finding a good gif response is more difficult than choosing a cathedral)
I THOUGHT THE EAST COULD COUNT ON YOU, DR GREEN! :(
Apologies! :(
*wipes away some tears* All good.
