      For what it's worth, I do think the 'appreciative about Britain' stuff has a hint of racism in it. I'm the child of an immigrant, but white. No-one has ever said it to me.

      It has always been about racism. If Shakespear was writing a play about black people then we have been here a lot longer than Windrush. The fact is only white people are treated as British.

      There were black people in Roman Britain. @caitlinrgreen's feed often highlights the variety of ethnicities of people who lived here then.

      I remember Bob Purkiss’ speech at an equal opps conference, when he pointed out that black Roman soldiers were here, some stationed on Hadrian’s Wall. “Even then we got the shitty jobs!”
