Possibly easier to get divorced and marry a European. (Great-grandparents are too far back, unfortunately).

Sadly not even an Irish spouse will get you one. I’ve tried!
-
I know, my wife can get one, my daughter can get one but I can't it's a wee bit 'leave me here, go ahead and save yourselves' with a mumbled 'I used to have a pair of George Best football boots you know.'

George Bests football boots, would be Northern Irish

And therefore qualifying for an Irish passport.
-
Really. Northern Irish people qualify for Republic of Ireland passports. Cool
-
Not sure if you are being sarcastic tbh but yes, people born in N.I. can apply for a passport from the republic.

I only goes back to grandparents, sorry. I spent a whole spidery afternoon in my Irish mother’s loft looking for marriage, death and birth certificates but just got mine I can now sun my old, retired buns in Spain like I’ve always planned.
-
If my grandmother was born in England but to Irish parents (and in a pub no less), does that cut it?
-
As I understand it only if your parent has claimed Irish citizenship already (pre 1986). I’m currently grieving that my dad didn’t do it.
-
Am only heartened that I live in Scotland (and my son was born in Edinburgh) so I figure I’m pretty safe if an independent Scottish EU passport ever becomes a thing...
-
I’m a Geordie so maybe Scotland would be kind enough to take me in ;)
-
You'd probably struggle to get into Scotland on an English passport. They probably wouldn't make that mistake again..
