A dad brings his 12 yr old son to the gym and ignores him while he lifts weights. The kid spends a miserable hour on his own doing star jumps etc then they leave. Kid looks so alone, & I always want to tell him his star jumps are GREAT, but know this would be seen as VERY WEIRD

Tell him. You might just make his day. My son is 11, growing his hair long & getting a lot of stick from peers. Yesterday he wanted to cut it all off. Today, in a queue, a random man behind him said "love your hair, I always wanted to grow mine like that." He was over the moon.

What makes me unhappy is the assumption that if I try and call out men on their attitudes towards women they’ll listen to me more than they would listen to women, both because of the implications involved and because actually, a lot of men just don’t fucking listen to anyone
-
To clarify, I know that that’s my mission and task as a self-proclaimed male feminist. I know that other men are more likely to listen to a man calling out their behaviour, but more often than not when I try and have those conversations I’m met with a “just get over it mate”

It’s led to me cutting a great many people from my life who I had once regarded as close friends, which ultimately was a cleansing experience, but those arguments took a toll. You can only bash your head against walls for so long till you get concussion, you know?

This is very difficult to answer, because we rarely ever get asked the question. Is that an answer in itself? I guess so.

I find it tiresome that I’m supposed to be interested in cars and building patios rather than real shit that affects people.

I've never witnesses emotional honesty or support. It's always about being "strong" and isolates you. Even after being sexually assaulted, I had a male therapist laugh about it. Another male therapist ignored my request for help for bulimia (which men "shouldn't have"). It lonely

Only telling your mates that you love them when you’re drunk. That expressing how important your friendship is, is something that goes unsaid too many times. Banter is meant to be a substitute, but it’s not! Have a mate who’s sick and that’s probably why I am saying this.

Being in my 30s, unmarried and no children, often feels like I don't count.
