I gave my grandfather a huge bunch of daffodils on his 90th birthday, it was the first time he'd ever been given flowers and his reaction is the reason I now make a point of giving men flowers.

I discovered a short while ago that my cousin loves fresh flowers on his dining table so buys them for himself because noone else ever would. Now, every birthday, Christmas and celebration in between his present from me is a lovely bunch of blooms.
-
That is so lovely, what a wonderful thing to do!
-
Thanks! I’m treated very well in return and ultimately don’t we all deserve a little something that makes us happy and if that for him is flowers so be it!

1. decent fellow story: This summer I was walking with my children in Scotland. The path was very narrow and very very close to the edge of a cliff They kept messing about and my heart was in my mouth ...

2. A man was coming the other way. I got ready for "banter". He look me in the eye and said "I'm absolutely terrified. How about you?" and asked how much further it was. I said, "Yeah. Terrified. how much further ...?" Afterwards I thought about

3. How very very rarely it happens that a male stranger allows you the luxury of not having to pretend like that. I blessed him all the way home.

My man buys me flowers every week (yes I am one lucky so and so). But I always make sure I return the joy buy giving him flowers when his favourites are in bloom. Seems when I gave him his first bunch of daffodils it was his first time and he loved them so much x

When I first met my (now) wife 12 years ago, one of our first conversations was about a friend who had bought their girlfriend flowers and I said that I wish that men were bought flowers. She’s bought me flowers on valentines day every year since then.

They should move to the Netherlands. Flowers are not gendered here, men & women give them to men & women and on all sorts of occasions.
-
Aren't tulips the biggest export from the Netherlands? Of course men there have realized the silliness of gendering gifts of flowers; the appreciation for their beauty is a national past-time!
-
Not the biggest but yes, flowers in general are a huge export.

I bought some for a guy I dated. When we split up he sent me their dried, dead heads in the post. But it wouldn’t put me off buying them for a man again, just a better man.
-
Wow, that is some serious drama queenery there. Was he 14?
-
That was the jist of the email I wrote him in response.

Spin-off discussion? Female soloists at classical concerts "traditionally" receive flowers where male soloists simultaneously get a) nothing or b) a bottle of wine - when they might well prefer flowers (and c) the women might prefer wine. Do girls not drink?!)
-
Uhhh maybe not EVERYONE drinks either? Why should alcohol be a go-to gift for anyone?!

-
I've often swopped the flowers for the wine with the bass/tenor...
