While we are on the subject, what does that expression 'man up' mean? I've really come to hate it.

Also, I'm better at multi-tasking than my wife, but I'm too afraid to tell her.
-
I was told to ‘man up’ after disclosing when I was raped by a male cousin. Being told that haunted me more that the assault. I internalised it and started self harming.
-
Despite that experience I think we need to stop classifying our experiences in terms of gender or race because it keeps use compartmentalised in the notion that we can’t understand each other. Yes we all have different exp. but we can all demonstrate empathy and understanding
-
Unfortunately, race or gender will always be a precursor to viewpoint but never have to be the source of a void in empathy or understanding.
-
Totally. I think we should also consider adding faith to that as well

This is a great thread. We need to put this male/female rubbish behind us and just work together for a better world but first we must sort out a few bad guys!
Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

This a sad, funny and thought provoking thread. I give it 12 hours before Buzzfeed or Bored Panda steals it all to 'write' (i.e. copy/paste) it all into an article.
-
I'm pleasantly surprised this thread isn't filled with a bunch of angry women yet saying men don't have problems or look at the pick me.
-
This is why 'feminism' isn't a great name. 99% of Feminists are looking for equality, not superiority, and recognise that much of what we're fighting for is equality among the sexes. Which means equality for men to be able to talk about how and what they struggle with too :)
-
I get what you’re saying, but the term is “feminism” because it’s the more marginalized group in the binary. You’d be surprised at the amount of people that say “I’m not a feminist. I’m an equalitarian!”
-
Absolutely. And I'm more than happy to call myself a 'feminist' cos I feel I have a kind of idea of what that means. But when nomenclature becomes a source of confusion (& aggression) for others then the name is the prob, not the movement, so maybe name needs to evolve?
-
btw - SO many revisions of that last tweet just to try to fit my thoughts into 240 chars!! Loving this discussion. Am not a scholar of Feminism and Gender Issues, but being a lady who lives this lady life, I find it all very interesting :)
-
No Yea totally, I’m also not a gender studies major, but I do feel that it’s important that we keep the name feminism, if only because it’s the only way we remind everyone it started with us. Of course it includes men (and every other gender) but it started with women
-
it's very easy for any confusion to be removed if the person :is: just ignorant, not dishonest. Thing is - it's not only bc of historical legacy, but the source of issues men have is the same, patriarchy. Something feminism is trying to dismantle.
