If there's one mantra that's going to get us out of this current mess, it's going to be EVERYONE saying, to everything they see, "Where has this information come from? How do I know what I know?" An intellectual safety-check.https://twitter.com/RossalynWarren/status/1049192148598513664 …

remember that video of a Russian woman pouring bleach on men on trains as a way to stop manspreading? turns out it was staged Kremlin propaganda intended to provoke anti-feminist reactions, and men in the video were paid to act as victim https://euvsdisinfo.eu/viral-manspreading-video-is-staged-kremlin-propaganda/ …

Comparing & scrutinising source materials was an important part of History teaching until a certain Education Secretary & Leave propagandist decided kids rote-learning dates & 'facts' was more important: step forward Michael Gove.

Yes remember doing lots of that for a levels & degree. Check your sources, what would be their motivation for writing x or y, allow for that bias when evaluating their use. One most valuable skills I learned

I still do a LOT of this in my history teaching. Possibly the most valuable life skill we can teach kids today is to question and interrogate information. GCSE courses still want candidates to be able to do it too. Thankfully.

glad to hear that, as when Gove's changes were announced it really didn't make much sense to me

Gove did make some sensible statements while Justice Secretary but ultimately didn't undo much of the damage of Grayling before him

First thing you learn when studying history. Who wrote it, when did they write it, why did they write it and who is the intended audience? Works well for Twitter too!

My default setting is scepticism. I question, question, question. Who gains? Who's likely to have been bought?e.g. Senate hearings a joke. Some of the multiple sackings/resignations of current WH current staff. Never bought Brexit from day 1. Expect politicos to lie.

I'm seriously thinking we need to skip the 1st April tomfoolery this year. Just days after #Brexit, where it's going to be carnage.

You only have to read two different newspapers’ slant on any given story to realise that we have to use our own brains to sift fact from fiction! History is often a matter of the opinion of the story teller.
