But who is helping people navigate all this information on the internet? Librarians! As information professionals, we are already able and positioned to help critically evaluate fake news, conduct searches, access the internet, support using the internet and we still love books
there’s something so special about the library, it’s a physical space. It has a heart and soul and so much potential to ignite ideas
Local library was a lifeline to me during post natal depression. The held stay and play sessions, story reading, rhyme time. It was something to get out of the house for and meet others. You can’t get that online x
So true. I find whenever I go with my son at least I am guaranteed a nice, encouraging chat with another parent or member of the public. It can mean a lot. (*then I leave with my arms full of beautiful books for both of us :)
Libraries are important community spaces. But the idea people should get their information there, instead of the internet, is ridiculous.
Libraries are where lots of people access the internet. And they also offer people who can help you determine what info is reliable
I've used my library for years but it's only now as I need large print books that I realise how much I need it.
Going to the library was one of my favourite routine trips as a child. And as an adult when I moved back to the UK to a new city the library was my go to place. I loved the one in Charlton, Manchester. My partner lived in the library as a child and is very much like Matilda
And, the towns w libraries most vulnerable to closing due to lack of funds are the same towns in which a large portion of the pop is likely to be unable to afford computers or DSLs. It's a further barrier for people without to achieve parity.
Libraries gave us power
My local library got me out of the flat when I was unemployed. Used to go with my laptop and do the job seeking there. It made a massive difference to my well-being at one of the worst times of my life. #librariesweek #libraries #librarylife
