BTW, this is something I confront often. Producers and bookers reach out to me to supply "a victim" or ask me to be on their show as an expert, but only if I bring a victim. When I decline, they withdraw the offer.

A certain daytime show was interested in having me on the show to talk about #NobodysVictim. . . but only if I "brought a victim." B/c y'know, victims are props.
But it gets better. On the next call with my publicist, they said they wanted a victim AND the perpetrator. OMG

Perhaps it's important for certain media folks to know that I'm a lawyer, author, and expert but not a talent scout. Sometimes clients are willing to become advocates, but it takes a great deal of work to prepare them emotionally and to pre-negotiate the terms of the interview

so their case isn't ruined or they aren't re-traumatized by talking to you. That is time that then is not being spent on their case, often does not benefit their case, and sometimes is used by the defendant to discredit them as a media whore.

Sometimes the requests for victims are very specific, like the call i got from a reporter looking for a cheerleader who'd been raped by a football player on homecoming night. Other times, they're looking for victims assaulted by a specific person.

Jerry Springer for the most part uses locally sourced actors and actresses, and it's all fake and a sham 99% of the time (which is actually pretty ethical in that regard I suppose). Dr Phil is a whole other story though.
