60 years ago today, Lester B. Pearson was awarded the Nobel Prize for his intervention in the Suez Crisis. His proud legacy endures to this day, as Canada works to find creative solutions to the complex challenges the world continues to face.

There's a lot of Suez Crisis in Season 2, Episode 1 of THE CROWN. You and @Graham_Bowley should watch -- it's sooo good.

Maybe. Or was Pearson a hangeron of US imperial ambitions? Or did he just not get it? It seemed like peace-making, but was it?

I cautiously agree with what Trump did. He moved forward. The Palestinians have no true desire for the end of hostilities. That is what I call peace. They do not have same interpretation.

Perhaps. But I will hazard that increasingly few Canadians know of the Suez Crisis and, perhaps, of Pearson. Is this even part of today’s high school curriculum (that is, where history is still a requirement)? Thanks goodness though for @TheCrownNetflix

Thanks @CicelyMcWilliam! "Wretchedness and poverty in one part of the world, with the conflict and desperate hopelessness it creates, is bound to affect stability and progress in all other parts.” A Pearson quote from 1969 that remains equally true today.
