Chrystia Freeland Retweeted Secretary Janet Yellen

Multinational corporations need to pay their fair share of taxes and the @G7 has just outlined a path to make this possible. This is good news for Canadians and Canadian businesses, and will ensure a fair and level playing field for them in the global economy.https://twitter.com/SecYellen/status/1401140688952102912 …

The G7 Finance Ministers have made a significant, unprecedented commitment today that provides tremendous momentum towards achieving a robust global minimum tax at a rate of at least 15%.

This proposal has a lot of merit but until the details come out in the wash, I’m sceptical this is the right solution. I’m not immediately distrustful of US proposals but this seems disproportionately skewed in their favour with little gain for the rest. Time will tell. 20%?

🚨 At the @G7 in London today, my finance counterparts and I have come to a historic agreement on global tax reform requiring the largest multinational tech giants to pay their fair share of tax in the UK. 👇The thread below explains exactly what this means. #G7UK pic.twitter.com/HdcK1HuM91

15%...robust... :( does this include taxing those off shore accounts?

That’s corporate tax though. 15% is fairly comparable to many federal corporate tax rates. And since the law demands companies pay taxes in countries where they do business (not just where they’re based) yeah they are closing tax shelter loopholes . This is good news.

And so do religious institutions. Far overdue on giving them a free ride.

@cafreeland fairly taxing corporations is long overdue and our futures depend on it. It’s your generation of MPs that’s going to set the course for the next hundred years. Please don’t allow the middle class to disappear on your watch.

That's a great start for having a level play field! Also promote local economy and trade within G7. It would be great to put a sticker on goods showing where they are made. Smth like, "Made in Canada 60%, U.S. 30%, Germany 10%". Would sure impact my buying decisions.
