So many academics forget that our goal, as a profession, is *not* to publish papers. It's to change the world.

The tenure process does not ask for citation counts, it asks for impact. Of course, quite a few colleagues missed the memo and equate the two. A lot of others see publication as the sole and main goal of their existence. Very sad.
And so many missed the memo saying that you can change the world and have an impact on it also by being a good teacher of future generations. We are speaking of academics, ain't we?
