I was once invited to visit SpaceX's facility on Kwajalein. Following interviews, I was told @elonmusk had to review all articles prior to publication. I explained journalism doesn't work that way. His current tweets come as no surprise.

Related: at initial press tour of giga factory, Tesla wanted journalists to sign NDAs. On a press tour. With journalists. whose job is precisely to disclose stuff. They eventually walked it back but it’s indicative of Musk’s misunderstanding of press & desire to control his image

Yes, because Tesla has the most advanced battery manufacturing technology in the world & products that haven’t been unveiled yet. You don’t have a right to show that to our competitors or spoil future product launches.

Nothing unusual about asking press not to reveal something until the manufacture is ready, it happens all the time, especially with new products like cell phones and other gadgets. If you don’t like it stay home.

Nothing unusual about journalists wanting more information. If you don’t like it, don’t do press tours or seek media coverage

Wanting more information and then throwing a tantrum when you don’t get everything you want is what you don’t seem to understand.

Who is throwing a temper tantrum? Actually Elon kind of is because investigative journalists reported on him in a way he can’t control. I was citing one example of how a person who wants to fix media doesn’t really get it (see also: they ripped up the NDAs bc it was a dumb idea)

I’ve just had it with sanctimonious journalists who appoint themselves protectors of the public interest & yet believe that same public is too stupid & immoral to assess their credibility. It’s amazing that you don’t understand how insufferably hypocritical that is. Wow.
