DAGs can horizontally scale just fine, but there isn't a way to 100% prevent double spends when they do. All nodes still need all events

so all nodes have to store the entire tx history? but that’s the purpose of permanodes, right? lighter nodes just need recent snapshots.

Right. But then you have to trust those making the snapshots. Over time it becomes more centralised and...well...that's bad right?

it’s definitely a problem that needs to be solved by any crypto project that scales. but blockchain centralization (i.e. mining) is worse.
