One of the greatest benefits of Twitter is that you can use it to learn how to be less reactive. Don't always need to respond. Here's a practice: scroll through your Twitter feed, and notice reactions in your body. Then get off Twitter and observe the contractions with clarity.

Sorry, but I don't think this is hardcore dharma at all. Putting oneself in a toxic environment that is actively designed to be anti-contemplative and then treating it as contemplative practice is delusionally idealistic.

I'm not saying it is a replacement for meditation. But it can be used as a tool to examine your own reactivity. Also, while I respect your view here, I think Twitter can be used to promote a positive, reflective, and reflexive message. Not that I always live up to these standards

I wouldn’t go so far as to call it delusional. Contemplative practices do happen in the world, and Twitter is the world, just under some magnification. It’s like meditating on a street corner. Not anywhere close to ideal, but still doable if you’re committed.

I think Twitter is the closest thing we have to an interconnected society of global neurons. Think of the inner conflicts we have about things we experience in our lives. That probably looks a lot like Twitter inside our head.

The term “monkey mind” is pejorative. It’s really how neurons work. They are organized into gangs that “war” with one another. Whoever wins that war has the most influence for that particular processing task. The next “war” may be won by another gang. It’s mob rule in our heads.

It’s probably more accurate to say the gangs compete for the allegiance of uncommitted neurons. Sort of like alt righters trying to red pill lonely gamers as the lefties are making appeals to their empathy with the disclosure of facts.
