I think Twitter is the closest thing we have to an interconnected society of global neurons. Think of the inner conflicts we have about things we experience in our lives. That probably looks a lot like Twitter inside our head.

The term “monkey mind” is pejorative. It’s really how neurons work. They are organized into gangs that “war” with one another. Whoever wins that war has the most influence for that particular processing task. The next “war” may be won by another gang. It’s mob rule in our heads.

Well put. Reading The Mind Illuminated really highlighted this dynamic for me.

It’s probably more accurate to say the gangs compete for the allegiance of uncommitted neurons. Sort of like alt righters trying to red pill lonely gamers as the lefties are making appeals to their empathy with the disclosure of facts.
