I just went to get my son’s Epi-pen prescription refilled and was told they’re out of stock due to a “national shortage.” ...is this actually a thing???

I haven’t had the meds for my narcolepsy for 8 years now, because the GENERIC averages $900 per month. It’s not really a problem, unless I want to drive. Or cook. Or bathe. Or work. Or adult.

That's f'ed up. Uncontrolled profit is going to kill us all.

Thankfully, I prefer showers, anyway. But I’ve ruined more than one pan/pot, & am dependent on energy drinks (destroying my metabolism, bad for my heart) to stay safely functional during daylight hours.
-
This is awful and appalling. I’m so so sorry :( That wouldn’t be allowed to happen in my healthcare system, it would be seen as cruel and unethical :( I wish I could do something

One of my coworkers has a friend who lost two of her three daughters to narcolepsy-caused car accidents. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have coped thus far, even if I have gained a lot of weight from the energy drinks. I’m hoping to find a job with real benefits soon.

And I bet no epi or insulin shortages there either.

I think we were a bit short on epis for a while. When stuff comes from the US it can particularly affect supplies. But I don't know of anyone missing out on one, they just weren't allowed to get two at once.

Agreed. Here in SA so much cheaper: my twin in the US paid 10x more for 5 meds compared to here. Shocking!
