Sure is one hell of an addictive drug. My intelligent,educated, well read mother was a medical librarian, who knew exactly how lethal smoking was, before it was “officially dangerous”. But, she’d started smoking when it was “safe”& glamorous in the 1940s. It killed her at 53

My dad got hooked in high school. He was adamant that we not get anywhere near cigarettes. Thank you, dad.

At AMA meetings in the 70’s , there were two rows of tables in the back of the auditorium for the smokers! I know, I was one of them.
