    Seems you can get a Ubuntu Desktop with VirtualBox running in Azure easily (thanks to Azure's nested virtualization support - didn't work in AWS due to HVM, couldn't install vbox dkms).

    Spent hours to work with the linux kernel and write my own vulnerable module. Compiling kernel, getting qemu to work, setting up gdb and being able to debug correctly was already a pain, but at this stage it's fun. Kernel ROP ahead.

    book is a really nice intro to arm exploits,high quality content. Esp. recommended if you have basic knowledge on x86 or other.
