    It has to be the best value for money you can spend at Apple (and that’s not counting the extra discounts you can get from third-party retailers). Tried it in real-life for the first time this week, the extra 0.5-inch screen diagonal over the old 9.7-inch is noticeable.

    Related: When Apple was developing Apple Maps circa 2010, their original plan was to piggyback on the iTunes data center. What they found was a really dated and inflexible tech stack ... so instead they set up a wholly separate new server farm in the same facility.

    I don’t blame any individual person, it’s a company issue. I also suspect one of the things holding them back is tech debt; all the media apps are built off creaky iTunes Store infrastructure.

    I can see where you’re coming from, but to include everyone in that statement seems a bit too harsh, no?

    The TV app is under a team at Apple called Apple Media Products. That group also manage the apps for News and Music. I don’t think any of them are at an acceptable quality bar.

    Heya Mayo, would you agree with the statement that Apple TV+ operates like a completely different company than the rest of Apple? It seems that Apple TV+ operates like a Hollywood company: creating a garbage app, pre announcing content, etc. Thoughts??

    As I touched on a year ago, Apple is trying to appease too many business divisions with the TV app. I think they should have been much more aggressive in focusing the TV app, ripping out legacy like the iTunes Store. The app would be better for it.

    I’m less concerned about the number of TV+ signups and more about what people thought when they did. Anecdotally, I think a chunk of people thought they were going to be able to watch every iTunes TV show and movie for free, and naturally came away annoyed and somewhat deceived.

    The App Store version is ‘remixed’ (I’d honestly say for the worse). Who knows why but they blanched it blue, removed the pencil, added a weird 3D page curl, and some other stuff.
