    East Cambridge is a hotbed of construction. Lots of workers stopped by to check out the scene while I was out there this AM. Indeed, many workers on nearby sites park in this garage, which is still open. A few were heading in to retrieve their cars at the end of shifts just now.

    This is the First Street Garage, across from the old Middlesex County Courthouse, where work began last month to replace a rusty and decrepit staircase. It collapsed with two workers on it. "At least a ton" of steel and concrete fell, Cambridge fire officials said.

    Also this is North Andover, who gave Amazon tax breaks with no particular worker-standards strings attached. What happens if (when) Amazon inevitably expands into municipalities that even more union-friendly. Like, say, Boston.
