The House just passed the Emmett Till Antilynching Act, a bill to make lynching a federal crime, with a vote of 410-4. The members who voted against it: -Justin Amash -Thomas Massie -Louie Gohmert -Ted Yoho
For a decent amount of time during the vote, there were 9 no's. @ckmarie and I watched in the chamber as several of those members slowly changed their votes to yeses as the vote went on: Paul Gosar, Chip Roy, Andy Biggs, Ralph Norman, and at the last minute, Steve King.
Yoho tells @mkraju just now that he opposed it because he believes it’s an “overreach of the federal government” and would infringe on states' rights.
It's that libertarian angle

Seems like an easy way to good will & good optics even if 'lynching' isn't what it was 100 years ago? So weird to me that these guys wouldn't see that.
Lynching still is what it was 100 years ago: a fear tactic racists use to silence minorities.
