I always thought of my backdrop of books as a quiet tribute to my father, the historian Andrew Ward, my cousin, the noir expert Nathan Ward, and others. I had no idea anyone would be so inventive as to build a storefront out of it! Thank you!

I'd never spoken with Chris before, but we discovered we have enormous common interests (attention, AI, staying up way too late on TT), and it all happened right in front of us in this conversation. Good stuff, please listen!

I try not to take criticism or praise of my home setup to heart, but when gives me props, I think back on how I fought depression during the pandemic by going hard at making a nice shot. Thanks for the encouragement!

. goes deep on the latest AI tools. One service, , takes on customer service bots to fight bills (sometimes by lying). As prez says, these tools aren't intelligent but a "warped mirror of what's on the internet for the last 20 years."

“GPT-4 is a large multimodal model (accepting image and text inputs, emitting text outputs) that, while less capable than humans in many real-world scenarios, exhibits human-level performance on various professional and academic benchmarks.”

I thought it was quite thoughtful, and that’s coming from someone who got mocked in it! I’m so glad they leaned on you for counsel.

I had a lot of fun being an advisor for John Oliver's crew on this segment! I haven’t watched it yet though, I was cringing too much at some of the simplifications in the near-final script. 🙈 Is it watchable for domain experts? youtu.be/Sqa8Zo2XWc4

People keep talking about how LLMs for search will include recent websites in their training data (@CaseyNewton also in Platformer). But this isn’t right, is it? You couldn’t retrain these models anywhere near often enough to keep them ‘live’… twitter.com/jjvincent/stat…

Ad for seemingly all-knowing AI product punctures the whole premise. "Ironically, if you actually search ‘what is the first image of an exoplanet’ on the original Google, the old-school Google, it gives you the correct answer."

After a run of “misuse cases,” synthetic-voice company ends free Beta period.

Crazy weekend - thank you to everyone for trying out our Beta platform. While we see our tech being overwhelmingly applied to positive use, we also see an increasing number of voice cloning misuse cases. We want to reach out to Twitter community for thoughts and feedback!

I bought this piece of #AI #art without realizing what it was. Tonight on come with me as I speak to the CEO of #Midjourney, whose software actually “made” it, and track down the artist, @anteddai, to talk about the nature of creativity.

Terrifying finding from a morning spent playing with ChatGPT. When asking it a simple question from my own research, it delivered an eloquent, succinct response, backed up by cited work of prominent researchers in the field. Only these citations are FAKE! (See screenshot)

With enormous thanks to for speaking with us. He walked headlong into the controversy by being one of the few to openly admit he used it to make something. Consider how few will be that honest about it in future.
