Catholicism has its foundation of salvation based upon works+faith=justification. Seeing as how the Bible explains itself (Romans 1-10 & a bunch of other places) we see that it’s clear that salvation is by grace, not of works. Divine accomplish rather than human achievement.

Love both of you guys btw💕, for the sake of discussion @bw_stephens , based on your definition, do you think one equals salvation, and the other doesn’t?

Waddup Paul! We love you bro haha. My argument to a Catholic would be Ephesians 1:4-7 & 2:8-9, 2 Timothy 1:8-9, Romans 3:23-28. If our works could get us saved, then Christ’s sacrifice on the cross meant nothing because it wouldn’t have fully accomplished the Father’s will.

I totally get what you are saying, and I am not catholic for a reason, but I think when they talk of justification including “faith” and works” they are referring to James 2:14-26. Basically, I think Protestants and Catholics define “justification” differently.

Oh it’s a totally different meaning between the two haha. Like how the Jews viewed circumcision in the early church, well those rituals that added on to your religiosity carried over into the Catholic Church. Take Mass for example or pedobaptism.

I’m not catholic, but I think the theology around works & faith is misunderstood. Works are a fruit of faith. Faith, without works, is dead. Check out the works of mercy. I think Sola Fide idea mistakes the term “works” for works of mosaic law.

Well faith alone in Christ is the reason we get to heaven, but it’s the works that prove Whom we belong to. Faith is counted to us as righteousness, Paul discusses this in the first half of Romans. Christ produces the work within us through regeneration and sanctification.
