  My mom worked as a programmer, and often had to do rural field installs of PCs with the Clipper/dBase/Procomm/Win3.1 package her team developed. The first thing she showed people who had literally never used a computer was Solitaire, for the mouse tutorial reasons mentioned.

  In college, I taught a weekend class for the elderly, showing them how to use computers. I used Solitaire and Paint on Windows 3.1 to teach mouse movement and clicking.
