Pssst. Hey. You. Yeah you. I ALSO have not read Marx. I understand a lot of Marxist theory though (even the big words!), because I have used other methods of learning about it. No where here have I said you must read Das Kapital. Please. I’m begging y’all. Stop.

For further clarity: - Also not saying you have to read Engels, or Stirner, or whoeverthefuck. - In fact, I’m not saying you have to read AT ALL - Not saying that there isn’t elitist bullshit that happens in theory - Also not saying that complex ideas aren’t... complex

What I AM saying is that it is paternalistic and infantilizing to suggest that big words/complex ideas are inherently inaccessible to the working class. Something requiring in-depth study to understand is not inaccessible or beyond the comprehension of working class people.

This shit is why I posted this to begin with. So many of y’all claim to have so much faith in the revolutionary character of the working class and then turn around and say that we don’t have the capacity to comprehend theory that requires work and reflection to understand.

That’s BULLSHIT. You wanna y’all about accessibility? Talk about how many works are inaccessible to people who don’t speak English. You wanna talk shit about the ivory tower? I’m with you, let’s pull all the works that belong to us out from behind those gilded doors.

You wanna talk about how not everyone has the ability or capacity to read through dry texts? Let’s put more work into making audiobooks of theory then. Let’s make videos and music and art that tackles those subjects in ways that are actually more accessible!

But if your idea of the working class is that we’re all people lurking around in the dark of ignorance, unable to understand anything more complex than “poverty = bad” then you ain’t no comrade and you don’t have an ounce of respect for what working class people have to offer.

I’m a working class butch from the sticks with ADHD and a high-school diploma. I have worked hard and constantly for the last 7 years to have the understanding of theory that I do. It is an insult I won’t abide for people to say that folks like me cannot understand complexity.

Anyhow, it may be hard for y’all to believe but not only can I, a working class dyke with ADHD, come to understand big words... but I can also write them *gasp*

Big words can be inaccessible to some of the disabled though and theory literature should be written with that in mind.

I wanna push back on this a little. There are certainly disabilities that make reading complicated works difficult/impossible. But that doesn’t make the theory or the larger words themselves inaccessible. It just could mean they need to be delivered/learned in a different format.
