Just used Wundertax in Germany to file my tax returns. It's a wildly different process here. No chance to overpay your taxes in Singapore b/c you file and pay income taxes once a year. In Germany, taxes get deducted from salary and if you forget to file returns, you overpay

If you ever struggle with “problem behaviors” like losing your temper, feeling like you have to be perfect, procrastinating, people-pleasing, or hating yourself, I highly recommend the book Complex PTSD: From Surviving to Thriving.

hey, really love the product so far! Any plans into supporting cron jobs (or any other type of scheduled jobs?). It would be very useful for things such as sending marketing emails, etc.

This is why probability is superior to statistics Distributions arise from systems and their dynamics Eg with probability we can model contagion as a branching process and it becomes very clear you must compare the parameters of the generating process, not retrospective tallies

Thought I’d pull this out of a reply. (It’s probably in my top ten list of “Non-consensus thoughts that deeply impact my worldview.”)

Free cash business idea: buy rights to server/cloud software of legacy and failed products. Charge a small subscription fee so users can continue operating. Run the software on cheap auto scaling clusters. Make a bit of money while you sleep.

A daily practice of gratitude is nothing more or less than an attempt to overcome hedonic adaptation. We get so used to how good we have things that we don't notice anymore.

I wrote an 8k word doc on machine learning systems design. This covers: 1. Project setup 2. Data pipeline 3. Training & debugging 4. Serving with case studies, resources, and 27 exercises. This is the 1st draft so feedback is much needed. Thank you!

Many solved problems aren’t. The amount of exploitable inefficiency in the world is a) staggeringly large and b) likely increasing absolutely. It is surprisingly hard to get people to do things that are in their obvious best interest. Human network microstructure is underrated

Refactoring UI is hands down the best tactical book on the subject.

For anyone else interested in software design, a good starter kit. What else would you recommend (books, posts, etc)?

The End of the Beginning The beginning of technology was about the shift from batched computing in one place to continuous computing everywhere. That era of paradigm changes may be over, which means the real changes are only beginning.

My son and I could watch this all day. Galton Board. 3000 beads hitting 174 pegs in 12 rows, each time with a 50/50 chance of moving left or right. The result each time very closely matches the “bell curve” normal distribution.

Don’t spend what you haven’t earned. Avoid financial debt. Don’t spend money you haven’t earned. Avoid social debt. Don’t spend goodwill you haven’t earned. Avoid calendar debt. Don’t spend (free) time you haven’t earned. The disciplined earner can be a guilt-free spender.
