Today, I saw firsthand ripgrep (https://github.com/BurntSushi/ripgrep …) run circles around both sift (https://sift-tool.org/ ) and grep on #MacOS. I wonder how much of this speed is due to both @rustlang features and their proper usage. #impressed #search #linux #rustlang @burntsushi5

It's not clear to me whether such a tool could be built in, say, Go and match the performance of ripgrep. Tools like sift and pt certainly suggest it is possible, but there is quite a bit of work required to prove that out.

Yeah I mean there's nothing Go can do with parallelism that Rust can't do. ripgrep already takes advantage of parallelism quite a bit!
