How many people assume that version A.B.C of a crate on http://crates.io contains (only) exactly the files from the Git source repo for the commit tagged X.Y.Z? This isn’t a valid assumption for multiple reasons.

Incidentally, this is one advantage of how Go does package management. It checksums everything and pulls the source straight from git. So if upstream rewrites history (for example), then your build will fail.
