PSA: if you are a code writing type person and you're not yet using `ag`, you are missing a very low effort / very large return way of making your life better. https://geoff.greer.fm/ag/ (Yes, yes, ripgrep is even better, I know. Don't @ me, bro.)

ag and rg are at least a one and half times faster than ack and twice as fast as grep (from a typing POV). Seriously, do you really need something faster than ag? Searching my 2.4 gig mono repo is pretty much instantaneous (especially if I specify the language like --perl).

this is why i haven't bothered to move to rg: ag is fast enough that i don't notice it. nevertheless, i find every time i mention ag, somebody pops up to say "bUt ripGREP is s0 mUcH3r b3tteRer d00d", so i was just trying to head that off at the pass.

Yes, people can be annoying. But I did put a ton of effort into making ripgrep not just faster than ag, but less buggy and with better support for platforms like Windows. Plus, with ripgrep, you can use it just like 'grep' in many more cases than you can with ag.

And to be fair, when I see "bUt ripGREP is s0 mUcH3r b3tteRer d00d", somewhere around ~half the time, the other person legitimately hasn't heard of ripgrep. ag still has a lot of mindshare. People just get excited about spreading the word about tools they really enjoy.
