I use Intel for everything. Heard bad things about AMD chips and battery life. Would rather stick with what I know works well.

Yes. Buying a laptop to run Linux is kind of a black art unfortunately. Choosing unwisely can be a major time sink. So some part of it is invariably based on patchy guesswork. :-(
