I'm wondering, how it was when using System76 for 3 month

Good. I'm using it ~daily. My biggest complaint by far is the touchpad. It's a real bummer to be honest. The touchpad on the HP ZBook I use at work is just leaps and bounds better. It's more precise and is clicky.

Great writeup! Why was NVIDIA a "hard pass" for you during your search for a next laptop?
-
Because Linux and nvidia don't mix well. A web search should help there. Plus I've heard too many horror stories about bumblebee being needed on laptops.

Weird that you mentioned that the T490 could not be extended with RAM. While the first Bank is soldered you can definitely add more. Mine has in total 48 GB (16 soldered and 32 added by myself) also added the Evo pro SSD 970 from Samsung.

I was referring to the options that the web UI gave me. So... Not that weird. :)

I tried Arch for a while but was burned when someone pushed out an ImageMagick compiled with -mcpu=native, causing it to crash on my machine. Cost me an afternoon debugging that.

I've spent a lot more time than that trying to convince Ubuntu to use upgraded versions of packages in order to get bug fixes that were made months or years ago.

I tried synaptics rather than libinput and it was really poor at palm detection. Libinput seemed much better.
#nixos -
Yeah, I am using libinput.
