ripgrep is awesome however keep in mind the speed is cause it sacrifices some features. so you may need grep in very very specific scenario's however in dialy use i don't feel the need to use grep anymore.

Which features does ripgrep sacrifice that allow it to be faster?

https://github.com/BurntSushi/ripgrep/blob/master/FAQ.md#posix4ever … some options. basically from what i remember author picked the most commonly used feature set and built ripgrep. So its not 100% grep replacement is what we need to remember.

I am the author. It isn't a 100% replacement, but that doesn't mean I omitted features because of speed. That's why I asked. Ripgrep is faster because it uses better algorithms. Not because it omits features.

hey @burnysushi5 sorry didn't checked the handle. big fan of your work. i general tell people to not consider it a 100% replacement and that was the same message i did this time. and as i said earlier in my daily driver setup i don't need grep anymore.

feeling like a jerk explaining something to the author of the tool and that too someone i admire. Will strive to pay more to attention.

Hah no worries. I probably should have identified myself but I just assume people know. :P mostly I'm just trying to make sure we keep things accurate. It is all too easy to miscalculate a bit on this stuff!
