    Story! In ’07, I wanted my first laptop to be a MacBook Pro. My dad worked at IBM so would only get a ThinkPad. I had to make $3k, somehow.

    Got hooked onto coding & hacking and hung out in IRC chans assisting folks around the world to jailbreak their phones and learn from them.

    Wrote some scripts and eventually figured it out & turned it into a side business that unlocked > 100 iPhones in 2 weeks and funded the MBP.

    The original iPhone was released & locked to AT&T. They were imported into SG as novelty duds anyway. Rando asks me if I knew how to unlock.

    You can't do much with an overly simplistic understanding. Once you understand the problem, then you can figure out how to resolve it.

    If you look at another engineer's work and think, "That's dumb. Why don't you just..." Take a breath. Find out why the problem is hard.
