    Bought the Penguin reprint of Harry Crews' A CHILDHOOD and decided to re-purchase FLORIDA FRENZY, a collection of short pieces I owned ~25 years ago. The photo of Crews on the cover bears a frightening resemblance to my late father.

    Hey! Andrew Hill! Remember him? Well, on October 11, 1968, he went down to Van Gelder's and recorded DANCE WITH DEATH for Blue Note. BN, in their infinite wisdom, withheld it from release until 1980.

    I love that one of the *defenses* of "access journalism" (aka fawning stenography) is that as a local reporter, you really need to be able to talk to cops. You know, so you can quote them accurately when they're slandering some teenager they've shot.

    Currently readng maybe the least surprising music bio EVER. Oh, Bill Frisell was a nice, polite guy who listened to his parents but grew his hair long in high school? I would absolutely NEVER HAVE GUESSED from listening to, I don’t know, FIVE NOTES OF THE GUY’S MUSIC.

    It sucks that Discogs crushes album covers down to 600x600 jpegs, but FYI, Adobe's Lightroom Classic will sometimes allow you to enhance those images enough to read back-cover liner notes.
