Trump tightens grips on judges as McConnell wins 50th Circuit pick. He says in interview he’s looking to clear the deck on district judges too before end of year “Whatever’s on the calendar, I’m going to make every effort I can to clear them all,”https://www.politico.com/news/2019/12/12/trump-judges-mcconnell-circuit-082836 …

Obama confirmed 55 Circuits in 8 years. Trump got 50 in 3. Overall Trump + McConnell approving judges faster than any president but Carter. Dems are in HUGE hole even with 2020 win “I don't know if there are any positions that are going to be left to be filled” says Sen. Tester

Before impeachment, one last power play. McConnell wants to do as many as 18 District judges this month. Time is running short and Dems don’t want to cooperate, though some are their nominees. Thune says they’ll just abandon Dem nominees and focus on R nominees without a deal

Rather than just winning an election, @brianefallon says Dems need to expand the lower courts “Democrats are wrong to think the solution involves simply winning the next election so we can have our turn to nominate people again,”

GOP is playing the long game. By 2028 Texas will be reliably blue. There may not by a GOP president after 2020 if Dems can win 2020 and 2024. McConnell is stacking up the courts for a generation.

Hes right but also being kind of alarmist. There may not be many vacancies waiting for whoever wins 2020 but there are a large number of circuit & district judges eligible or almost eligible for senior status. There will be a good number of opening seats in 2021-2 no matter what

Wondering how many of Obama’s were rated unqualified? The number Trump is racking up is worrisome, the judicial incompetence is terrifying.

yes, but with the scandal and lack of qualifications for a large amount of those judges, how many of them may be removed at some point?

I’m pretty sure judges are the main reason that #MoscowMitch refused to do anything to stop Russia in 2016 and is refusing to stop them for the 2020 election.
