The trick worked well enough to fool most people into thinking I was a "legit" researcher, getting me credibility I needed to make my case to MSFT. But MIT had only gotten worse over time as seen in the Star Simpson and Aaron Swartz cases.

Most people don't know that - which is why @Joi's Disobedience Prize is so important for re-normalizing disobedience as a cultural value of MIT.
I got lucky and dodged MIT's bullet, but students shouldn't have to dodge bullets coming from their own institute in the first place!
