How many fomu boards are having this issue? Is it a problem with the board layout or something else?
My understanding is it is a small design error in the pre-production run. The intent of the rework is to 100% validate all the other aspects of the design before doing a volume rev for mass production.
Is this an example of rather extreme rework or is this pretty typical?
Difficult but not extreme. I had a bug on NeTV2-EVT that required cutting multiple layers to eight traces and patching resistors at very specific locations on GHz-speed wires. That was harder. And in college I held a job soldering where we routinely did even more difficult work.
I miss smd and bga reworking
Imagine the pain if the pad was not on an outer edge
Damn, that took a ton of focus, patience, and a touch of crazy thrown in! Awesome video!
Not up there with hair thin debug wires towards BGA's lifted at an angle, but still impressive. ;)
Wow, awesome job.
