Hopefully in a few months they've worked out the bugs, but doing the math... they need to fill one train every 20 mins at peak and looks like it takes a few minutes to process and clear each passport. Even with 20 ticket windows open, not sure it's viable for non ID card holders.

otoh, if you're going farther (DG, GZ, beyond), the ticket lines in shenzhen for the high speed rail can also be hour-long affairs, and at least in HK you get to hang out at a swanky air conditioned mall and enjoy internet outside the GFW. So it makes sense for the long haul...

If you have to wait that long, then it doesn't even matter if the high speed rail would teleport you instantly (but it would be very cool ofc).

That’s crazy! Ever since I discovered the HK-SZ ferry back in 2007, it’s been a pleasurable trip!

Crazy! I was thinking to take this next time I go but scrap that idea. Going to go through Futian checkpoint is 麻烦 enough as it is but seems less like hell compared to this.

Shenzhen I assume; I was thinking ISO 3166, High-speed rail to Swaziland from Hong Kong would be pretty impressive.

How would you say it compares to the ferry or the subway system?

Only open a few days. I woud be surprised if they don't shake out the bugs in the coming months.
