buildOn students participated in a cleanup event in #Chicago where they weeded and cleaned plant beds at a local park. “Around where I live, there’s a lot of garbage. Cleaning up feels good,” says buildOn student Guadalupe Sanchez. We couldn’t agree more! 🌱 🌿 🌷

We’re excited to announce that the school in Kavizinde, Malawi that we partnered with to build is now complete! With their help, 1,256 more youth in #Malawi have new facilities to help them learn & grow! Michael, an 8th grader there, has some wise words for us!

buildOn students in #Oakland participated in a weekly #cleanup at a local neighborhood dumping lot. Cleaning the trash that threatens not only the environment, but also the health and safety of community members, is a way of giving back and encouraging #compassion.

Participants of buildOn schools in #Malawi grew a whopping 10,000 pounds of soybeans, and produced 350 bags of organic fertilizer aimed at boosting their local economy! Such projects aim to improve the food and financial security of local communities.

The buildOn Boston team, along with local community members, participated in a cleanup project 🚮 at the #CharlesRiver this past #EarthDay weekend. Getting rid of microplastics near riverbanks is a challenge, but we were all up for it! Bottle caps, cigarette butts – begone! 🚬

On this #EarthDay 🌏, we want to highlight the awesome students at buildOn Chicago who planted trees outside a correctional facility earlier this school year. We must all work towards ensuring a #sustainable and green future ♻️. We love to see our students playing their part!

Last year, 1,428 students attended buildOn’s two secondary schools in Mali and Malawi. These schools are putting hundreds of students on a path to higher education. 155 students graduated from both schools in 2022!

Thank you, EAC! This primary school in Massar was the 6th of 13 Senegal schools constructed in 2022. Of the 239 schools we broke ground on last year, 33 of them were made possible because of our joint partnership with EAC.

We’re excited to share that the new school in Polo de Yale, Nicaragua is officially complete! 56-year-old resident, Omar Suazo Aviléz, said “That [losing an arm] was not going to stop me from joining this project. I spent a lot of time at war, but now I support my community.” 🧡

#EmbraceEquity and imagine what's possible when there is no age limit put on returning to school. Our innovative Adult Literacy Program is pushing LIMITS, and giving women in rural communities the opportunity to gain crucial skills in literacy and numeracy.

Happy #WorldWaterDay 💧! Did you know that each buildOn school comes equipped with latrines? This helps to both decrease the risk of disease and improve attendance, particularly among female students. When needed, hand-washing stations (like the one pictured) are also provided!

Check out these amazing women on the work site in Guatemala! The Aldea Chamuxú community contributed the land, and natural resources for the school construction. Not only did these incredible leaders help collect supplies, they also organized crews to volunteer on the worksite.
