Is there a set of (multiplex) PCR primers that capture the greatest number of common viruses? I have looked a bit, and you'd think it would exist, except that nobody cares to test for rhinovirus....

more cool DIY lab stuff from GaudiLabs! It's a pity these DIY spectrometers cannot see 230/260/280nm though... That's kind of essential for DNA analysis and nanodrops cost $2k+

is pretty intriguing. It looks like statically typed python (so it's fast), plus some DNA sequence analysis built-ins? I think I'd be more likely to use it if it was 100% compatible with (Mypy annotated) Python....

New illumina sequencers! They are midrange: neither cheaper nor more throughput than other sequencers, so hard to get too excited...

These little monoprice stitch plugs are pretty great. I've bought a bunch now. Connects to wifi, nice app, easy to add alexa/IFTTT and reports kWh... Apparently our Christmas tree was 500W, ~= 1.5 solar panels!

I got for christmas. Sadly it looks like even though I take fish oil my omega 3s are still too low... For $99 it seems like a great test so I'll probably redo in a few months. (Heard of it via 's podcast.)

Mass spec / metabolomicists: we see what looks like C2H4O adducts (contaminants?) commonly in our data AND specifically, this mass addition charged 5 or 6 times (never 4!)Googling failed me, but it seems common enough that if it's real someone may know of this effect?
