The beatstep saga continues! Made a STM32F1 LQFP100 target board for my ChipWhisperer. Pretty hastily done, but I think it could work.

Broke down and bought an original pitch control board off ebay for $70. It's finally back together! Now to get another phono preamp and make a mixer.

Got off my ass and measured the resistance of the pitch slider at various points. Not exactly happy with the precision of the results as I had to eyeball everything. Probably going to try again with a laser tachometer and a better multimeter.

Oh cool, the bearings on the tonearm are fucked. Guess I'll redo its PCB too while I wait for parts. Drawing that outline in Kicad was not fun.

I can design my own and get 3 of them made at OSHPark for $2.50 lawl. There's even a spot for an extra dimming resistor squeezed in. Designed in Australia.

Pads are ripped off in a lot of places. This one just has the LEDs for the strobe. Replacements are $10 for just the PCB, closer to 20-30 with LEDs.

Also started restoring the metalwork. After a good scrub with some degreaser and bit of polishing, it doesn't look bad. Much better than before at least.

The Technics potentiometer also has a weird taper. There's a dip in the middle, which I presume is how they turn on the LED and lock the motor frequency to 0 when it's set to 0% pitch change. Looks like I'll have to figure out a circuit to emulate that. Or use an MCU.

Just got the new Bourns sliding potentiometers in the mail. $5 each vs over $50 for the exact one used in the 1200MK2. The Bourns unit has no center detent, which most DJs remove anyways, and feels a little lighter than the OG Technics one.

Sooooooooo let's design our own and save like $50.

Oh and new pitch controls sell for over $100; usually around $60 for the fader and $30-40 for the PCB. That's ridiculous.

Restoring a Technics 1200 turntable I found for cheap. The last person who worked on it should never be allowed near electronics ever.
