~75% of the unvaccinated are low-income. They are nearly 3X as likely to be food insecure. Most are parents, and many work jobs where they can’t just take time off for a shot and recovery. But there is so much we could do to reach them if we wanted to: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/08/06/opinion/covid-delta-vaccines-unvaccinated.html …pic.twitter.com/1pOl47K1KN

We've yet again responded to a health crisis by making it a matter of personal responsibility, blaming the unvaccinated for not getting a shot and throwing up our hands. There are plenty who refuse to get it, and I get being angry about that. But it won't help us reach the rest.

What works? Block parties with shots. Bringing vaccines to food pantries, shopping centers, churches, work sites. Offering real childcare and transportation options. And, of course, mandating paid leave for vaccination and recovery.

Thank you for writing this story! The whole narrative around "the unvaccinated" has been driving me up the f**king wall. It's so creepy & cruel. My diatribe from a month ago:https://twitter.com/annia/status/1413315484351700998 …

        5. Turns out one reason people "refuse" to get vaccinated is... wait for it... THEY DON'T HAVE A FUCKING CAR! https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-biggest-barriers-to-covid-vaccination-for-black-and-latinx-people1/ …

I think it's really difficult for those of us who know people who do not fit that 75% - the "young and healthy" (nephews), the elders & others who go to the doctors every other week but "big pharma/hoax, etc. (in-laws, hub's co-workers), or just don't vax (brother-in-law/friends)

The success of the smallpox vaccination program makes today's America look extraordinarily wimpy.

Because there is minimal adverse reactions and most of those can be handled at home. 0.0001% have had adverse reactions all over the world.
